The association GRENZHUS e.V. was set up to run and preserve the museum in Schlagsdorf near Ratzeburg. It is the intention of the association to make the GRENZHUS a leading contact point for questions concerning the inner german dispartment in the area of the baltic coast. We want the latest history to be available for the public, and the facts about the life at the former border of the GDR to be comprehensible for the coming generations.
Our association consists of members who have eye witnessed the time of the border and the former GDR as well as former GDR border guards members and political and historical interested persons from west Germany.
The museum itself is situated in a domain farm house which is more than 200 years old, near Ratzeburg, in the north of the biosphere reservation Schaalsee.
